Localizing NDC Implementation at the Sub-National Level
This side event will highlight Ethiopia’s experience in localizing climate action through the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (CHAMP).
WRI Africa Pavilion at the Second Africa Climate Summit
While NDCs are designed nationally, their success depends on effective implementation at the city and regional levels in sectors such as energy, transport, waste, water, and infrastructure. Ethiopia, with WRI’s support, is piloting a sub-national emissions stocktaking process in Addis Ababa to strengthen alignment between local actions and national climate goals.
This session will highlight Ethiopia’s experience in localizing climate action through the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships (CHAMP). Speakers will share lessons from Ethiopia’s CHAMP pilot, including a structured stocktake of local emissions and policies, identification of gaps and opportunities, and development of a scalable framework for other cities and regions. It will also provide a platform for governments and partners to exchange strategies and innovations for advancing multilevel climate action and accelerating NDC implementation across Africa.
