Peter Ntaganda
Restore Local Program Manager, Lake Kivu and Rusizi River Basin Landscape Rwanda-Burundi-DRC
Peter Ntaganda is the Landscape Manager for the Lake Kivu and Rusizi River Basin Landscape of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda.
Peter manages and leads all the restoration activities in the Lake Kivu and Rusizi River Basin and coordinate the landscape restoration delivery team. He serves as the focal point for planning, implementation, and learning. In addition, Peter will coordinate an ambitious and rapidly growing team comprising of experts in finance for restoration, capacity building, monitoring, communication, policy, hydrology, food and nutrition and other disciplines relevant to landscape restoration.
Prior to joining WRI, Peter worked as independent consultant in Food systems and Sustainability among other areas with several organizations including FAO, SNV, and Agriterra among others.
Previously, Peter also served as an Advisor to the Minister of State at the Ministry of Agriculture & Animal Resources in Kigali, Rwanda, where he worked for nearly 3 years. In this role, he contributed to policy-making processes, guided agricultural strategy development, and oversaw various initiatives aimed at enhancing the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of Rwanda's agricultural sector. Before this, Peter was a Business Advisor at Agriterra from 2017 to 2020. In this role, he worked closely with agribusinesses and farmer cooperatives, providing them with business development advice, training, and support. At Agriterra, Peter also coordinated and consolidated activities and achievements of Agriterra in 7 countries within the Eastern and Southern Region and was a member of the HortInvest Management Committee leading the cooperative development component of the consortium.
Peter has extensive experience in working with Government and Non-Government organizations as well as the private sector in the fields of Food systems, Sustainability, Agricultural Policy, Agribusiness, Value chain analysis, Agriculture trade, Agri-finance & Agricultural cooperative development.
Peter holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics and Agribusiness from the National University of Rwanda and a master’s degree in Agribusiness from the University of Waikato, New Zealand.
Peter lives in Masaka, Kicukiro District, City of Kigali in Rwanda with his wife Fanny and their daughter Aleezah.
