Linking Adaptation with Just Transition, Including Job Creation, Health, And Social Protection
This session will highlight how community-led forest economies—especially those driven by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities—offer powerful adaptation strategies with wide-ranging co-benefits.
Mandated Event at the Second Africa Climate Summit
This session will highlight how community-led forest economies—especially those driven by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPs & LCs)—offer powerful adaptation strategies with wide-ranging co-benefits. These approaches not only protect and restore ecosystems but also generate income, support dignified livelihoods, improve food and water security, and strengthen public health and social cohesion, all while maintaining standing forests and advancing climate resilience.
Drawing on examples from the Congo Basin and Brazilian Amazon, the discussion will show how inclusive land governance, territorial stewardship, and sustainable bioeconomy production can create scalable, just transition models. The dialogue will distill lessons on the political, financial, and infrastructure conditions needed to foster community-led forest economies and integrate them into national adaptation and just transition plans.
