Mobilizing GIS and Digital Tools for Climate Change Responses in Central Africa
This session will explore how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital tools are transforming forest and natural resource management in Central Africa.
WRI Africa Pavilion at the Second Africa Climate Summit
This session will explore how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and digital tools are transforming forest and natural resource management in Central Africa. As climate change responses gain prominence, these technologies provide critical insights into forest ecosystem status, land cover, land use and socio-economic and ecological conditions.
The integration of artificial intelligence with GIS offers new opportunities to enhance predictive modeling, develop digital products, and support a range of mitigation and adaptation initiatives, including REDD+ Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and vulnerability mapping.
The event will showcase scalable regional initiatives that leverage GIS and digital tools to address climate challenges, offering a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. Through case studies and stakeholder discussions, participants will learn how these technologies can inform data-driven decision-making, improve climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies, and strengthen sustainable environmental management across Central Africa. Partners: co-organized by the World Resources Institute, CIFOR-ICRAF, and UCLA
