Transforming Africa’s Food Systems for Climate Resilience through Agroecology
This high-level event will unite governments, financiers, civil society, researchers, and farmers to position agroecology as central to Africa’s green development agenda.
Mandated Event at the Second Africa Climate Summit
Africa’s food systems are under immense pressure: nearly 300 million people face chronic hunger even as obesity rises, while low productivity, soil degradation, and climate shocks erode food security and rural livelihoods—particularly for women and youth. Yet countries like Kenya and Ethiopia are pioneering national agroecology strategies that restore soils, strengthen resilience, cut emissions, and provide affordable, nutritious food. Agroecology offers a pathway to reimagine farming systems by blending local knowledge with diversified, climate-resilient practices that deliver food security and ecosystem benefits together.
This high-level event will unite governments, financiers, civil society, researchers, and farmers to position agroecology as central to Africa’s green development agenda. Discussions will focus on closing the financing gap, advancing enabling policies, and empowering women, youth, and smallholders to lead a transition toward resilient and equitable food systems.
