WRI Africa Pavilion at the Second Africa Climate Summit

Civil society, particularly local organizations, is increasingly recognized as a key driver of climate action at national and global levels. While the UNFCCC provides the formal framework, the effectiveness of responses depends on national and subnational governance, as well as the complementary roles of NGOs, the private sector, and international partners.

In Central Africa, the rise of local NGOs—spurred by decentralization—has positioned them as vital actors in shaping inclusive, context-specific climate strategies. This side event will spotlight civil society’s contributions to climate responses in the Congo Basin, sharing diverse experiences of mobilization and engagement. By fostering dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders, the session will highlight the importance of local voices in advancing resilient and sustainable development, and ensuring that climate strategies across Sub-Saharan Africa are inclusive and effective.
