Harnessing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Urban Resilience: Data, Finance and Community-Led Action
Room AP2, Addis International Convention Centre
As African cities confront rising climate risks, nature-based solutions offer powerful tools to build resilience—if they can be scaled effectively. This side event convenes the World Bank, African Development Bank (AfDB), International Institute for Sustainable Development, and Resilient Cities Network and WRI to spotlight how data, finance, and community leadership are unlocking Nature-based Solutions (NbS) at scale. The session will offer insights from flagship initiatives, such as the SUNCASA project in Ethiopia, Rwanda, and South Africa — as well as insights from urban NbS implementation in Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia — highlighting what is needed to scale up these solutions in cities. Insights will showcase how data and technology are being used to forecast climate impacts, guide NbS planning and demonstrate results over time.
