The New Green City: Evidence-Driven Solutions for Resilient Urban Futures
Join us for the launch of new tools helping African cities grow greener, healthier, and more resilient
WRI Africa Pavilion at the Second Africa Climate Summit
Africa’s cities are growing at an unprecedented pace, with expanding infrastructure, housing, and services to meet the needs of its people. Yet, the impacts of climate change – extreme heat, flooding, and biodiversity loss – threaten cities’ resilience and livability.
Led by the World Resources Institute and the French Development Agency, this session will feature the launch of two tools for accelerating the uptake of nature-based solutions to urban environmental challenges:
- The Strategic Nature-Based Solutions Framework – A roadmap for deploying NbS in climate vulnerability hotspots in urban areas.
- The Species Selection Guide: A science-backed guide ensuring that urban greening and restoration efforts are ecologically sound, resilient, and aligned with Addis Ababa’s ecology and biodiversity.
This event will bring together government leaders, scientists, community representatives, and development partners to explore how these resources can be translated into tangible projects that shape resilient futures for the cities of Addis Ababa and Kigali.
Partners: Agence Française de Développement; Addis Ababa Urban Beautification and Green Development Bureau; Gulelle Botanical Garden; Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development
