WRI Pavilion at the Second Africa Climate Summit

Governments in the Global South face urgent climate and development challenges, yet often lack locally grounded evidence to guide decisions. Universities have strong expertise in modeling and systems thinking, but weak links with policymaking limit the use of this knowledge. Bridging this gap is essential to co-produce evidence-based solutions, strengthen climate planning, and unlock the potential of national universities to support long-term development goals.

In Ethiopia, the Ministry of Planning and Development, Addis Ababa University, and WRI are piloting a model that embeds Green Economic Modeling into national planning. This includes building regional modeling capacity, creating a system dynamics curriculum, and applying models to inform Ethiopia’s NDCs and long-term strategies. This side event will showcase Ethiopia’s experience and provide a forum for governments, researchers, and partners to explore how academic-policy collaboration can be scaled across the Global South.
