WRI Africa Pavilion at the Second Africa Climate Summit

Africa’s landscapes face mounting pressures from deforestation, land degradation, and climate change—threatening ecosystems, food security, and livelihoods. Yet the continent also holds immense potential for nature-based climate solutions. Through the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100), governments and partners aim to restore 100 million hectares by 2030. World Resources Institute (WRI) supports this ambition by providing technical expertise and advancing data-driven restoration planning, with tools that monitor land health, guide action, and measure impact at scale.

Achieving restoration at scale depends on empowering local actors. Through TerraFund for AFR100, WRI and partners channel catalytic finance to community-based organizations, cooperatives, and small enterprises that restore land directly on the ground.

This session will showcase WRI’s role in enabling restoration across Africa, highlight TerraFund-supported projects that demonstrate innovative and inclusive practices, and illustrate how locally led action contributes to climate mitigation, biodiversity and livelihoods. The goal is to inspire learning, exchange, and replication of effective restoration models across countries and landscapes.
