RELEASE: WRI Africa appoints George Mwaniki as Country Representative for Kenya
NAIROBI, KENYA (September 26, 2024) — World Resources Institute, Africa, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr George Mwaniki as Country Representative for Kenya. In this role, George will lead strategy development, stakeholder management and coordination of WRI’s portfolio in Kenya. George will also continue as Head of Air Quality for WRI Africa, which is dedicated to improving air quality across the continent.

Before joining WRI, Dr Mwaniki worked as a consultant on climate finance, supporting numerous institutions and countries across Africa, including Rwanda, Togo, Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, the DRC, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Zimbabwe, and Niger. George holds a PhD in Environmental Science (Atmospheric Sciences) from Washington State University, a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Montana Tech of the University of Montana, and a BSc. in Environmental and Biosystems Engineering from the University of Nairobi.
